Glen Powell joked that he was the “master of ceremonies” at his younger sister’s wedding in Texas over the weekend during an April 2 appearance on TODAY.
Powell, the star of “Twisters” and the “Top Gun” sequel, was a groomsman, but he brought his movie star charisma to his speech.
In an interview with TODAY.com, Powell shares what he said in his toast.
“I worked hard on this one because I have such a close relationship with my little sister, and she’s hard to sum up,” Powell says.
He says his speech was ultimately informed by his sister Leslie’s relationship with her husband, Thomas Gillespie.
“She and Thomas — they’re goofy and they’re good people. Their personalities match. You sometimes go to weddings and you think, ‘Oh, these two people could probably end up with other people, and they’d be also happy.’ That is not the case here. They are so specific, and so like, perfectly matched, that it just feels like true love,” Powell summarizes of his speech.

The middle of three children, Powell is flanked by older sister Lauren and younger sister Leslie. Their parents, Cyndy and Glen Powell Sr., love to troll (and support) their famous son. He recently moved back to Austin to be closer to the family unit, he shared on TODAY.
Now, as the sole unmarried Powell sibling, does he feel the pressure to do it himself?
Not until he can make a match as well as his sisters’, he says.
“I will say my, both of my sisters have married just incredible guys. They’ve done it right,” Powell says.
“I want to be married once, and I want to do it right the first time,” he adds. “So I think everybody in the family … I have very protective sisters. Whoever it is, we’ll do it right.”
Powell also made headlines for his “Anyone But You” co-star Sydney Sweeney‘s attendance at his sister’s wedding. He said on TODAY with Jenna & Friends that Sweeney and Leslie are close.
“Timing is everything in this world, isn’t it? She and Syd are obviously great friends and it was a hell of a wedding,” Powell told Jenna Bush Hager and guest co-host Olivia Munn on TODAY with Jenna & Friends. “The Powells know how to do it right, so all the people that love her were there.”
