Drew Barrymore Talks Making Another Movie With Adam Sandler

Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler have delighted moviegoers with a trio of films they have made together over the years — and they don’t seem to be finished.

The pair starred in the beloved comedy “The Wedding Singer” in 1998 before reuniting for “50 First Dates” in 2004 and “Blended” in 2014. While on her talk show, Barrymore was asked in an April 23 clip if they will team up on another movie.

“I think so, as far as — I know so. That’s a yes, and it’s a matter of when, but I don’t think it’ll be too long, because we’ve always done everything every 10 years, and we’re running out of time. We’re past 10 years at this point,” she said on “The Drew Barrymore Show.”

Barrymore added that her relationship with Sandler transcends anything fans may see on the big screen. She also noted how his wife, Jackie Sandler, is her “dear” friend, and that the couple’s daughters, Sunny and Sadie, spend time with her daughters, Olive and Frankie. That bond makes it easy for them to work together as they continue to try and find the right project.

“I think it’s always a matter of like, ‘What is it?’ And so we’re on the search for it, because we’re happy when we’re together,” she said.

Barrymore also said she and Sandler have grown so much since their first movie together.

“We’ve had so many evolutions. When we started ‘The Wedding Singer,’ we were both young and single and in our early 20s, and now we’re both parents and have girls of a certain age,” she said.

“So what is the thing that’s going to sort of speak to what we should do next? We just need to find it. We need to get on it and find it, but I will grow old with him and Jackie. They’re sort of like a package deal. Maybe that’s the movie.”

Barrymore would also love to bring in another frequent Sandler co-star: Jennifer Aniston, who has appeared with him in the 2011 rom-com “Just Go With It” and the 2019 Netflix comedy “Murder Mystery,” as well as its 2023 sequel. Aniston and Barrymore also both appeared in the 2009 ensemble comedy “He’s Just Not That Into You.”

“I also am always fighting to do a movie with him and Jennifer Aniston. I so want to do a movie with the three of us,” she said. “But I’m glad if anybody wants it, also. I’ve never assumed that they do.”

Barrymore has spoken about her desire for the three of them to work before.

“I’m so busy talking to him and Jennifer Aniston about doing a threefer, if you will,” she told “Entertainment Tonight” in February 2024. “I really want to make it happen. Timing is everything.”

She also has come up with some potential projects the three can do.

“I keep pitching ‘Death Becomes Her.’ We’ve talked about ‘Three’s Company.’ We’ve talked about a lot of things. Maybe it’s something original. I don’t know … There’s lots of fun ideas,” she said to “Entertainment Tonight.”

“You know when you wish for something so much you don’t even care if saying it out loud will jinx it?” she continued. “You’re like, ‘I don’t even care. I’m just going to say it. It’s too fun to dream about.’”

Barrymore also believes the fantasy of working together can indeed become a reality.

“We’re all producers, so we have all companies, so we can make this happen and I think it’s a matter of timing.”
