Bowen Yang is among those who were surprised by fellow “Saturday Night Live” cast member Ego Nwodim’s viral bit from the April 5 episode, in which she unwittingly got the audience to say a curse word in unison.
Nwodim played Ms. Eggy in a bit on “Weekend Update” where she tried to plead her case for emceeing the White House Correspondents’ Association. At one point, she mentioned Sen. Cory Booker’s record-setting speech in front of the Senate last week.
“Cory Booker out here with his filibuster. Shoot, I’ve had my fill of busters. Because these men ain’t what?” she said before holding the microphone toward the audience.
The audience replied, “S—,” prompting it to be censored in later airings, as well as the clip on the “SNL” YouTube page.
“We finna get fined for that,” Nwodim said, while “Weekend Update” anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che laughed.
“Y’all going to have to pay for that. Lorne’s going to be mad at y’all,” she continued, mentioning “SNL” creator and executive producer, Lorne Michaels.
Yang, who guest co-hosted TODAY with Jenna & Friends on April 7, was surprised the audience responded with such coarse language at the same time.
“I think the way it was written was, it was supposed to play to silence,” he said. “The audience doesn’t know what the catch phrases are and I think this says something about the state of men in this current year of 2025 that everyone knew what to say at the same time.”
“They didn’t even say, ‘Ain’t worth a damn,’ which I think we are allowed to say,” Jenna said.

“They really went for it because we’re tired, man,” she continued.
“Look, I’m tired. Me, too. I’m tired of guys, also,” Yang said.
Jenna then complimented Yang on his work in “Wicked” and said she hasn’t had her fill of him.
“You’re just the best. You’re the only man besides my husband that I’m not tired of,” she said.
Yang then circled back to compliment Ngowim’s work in the sketch.

“She’s carrying the handbag like she’s one of the queens of comedy. That was such a funny bit. I’m telling you, as a cast member, there’s no better feeling than scoring on ‘Weekend Update,’ and that’s one of the all-time great (bits),” he said.
“She killed it,” Jenna said.
Jenna also loved how Jost and Che were laughing in the background.
“The fact that they were sitting behind her, Colin and Michael, and just were like, ‘What is this?’ It was so good,” she said.
